Wait – so you’re telling me that North Korea launched a rocket that fell into the sea? And that both Artemis Pebdani and Brent Pope are in the cast to play Kim Jong-Il and Kim Jong-Un? Yeah, I think I might be able to write something on that….

Watch “Never Let Go” From Top Story! Weekly Episode 145: “Mitt Passes Over”!

April 10, 2012

We had four women in the show this past Sunday and I wanted to make sure we had plenty of stuff for them. So I had the idea for a sketch where a group of female friends go to see the 3-D version of “Titanic” expecting to laugh at it, and got affected differently than they expected. Well, according to this article in the Huffington Post, this sketch might have been more true-to-life than I imagined!!

Watch “TS!W 720: Al Gore Responds to Keith Olbermann” from Top Story! Weekly Episode 144: “Stop! In the Name of Health Care!”

April 4, 2012

Keith Olbermann’s firing from Current TV broke late on Friday – after we’d already picked the sketches for this week’s show, but early enough that I could get in a desk piece with Phillip Wilburn doing his great Al Gore characterization offering his side of the story!

Starring Phillip Wilburn (Al Gore) and Brent Pope (Manny)

Watch “Double Merger, Triple Threat” from Top Story! Weekly Episode 144: “Stop! In the Name of Health Care!”

April 3, 2012

Since the results of the SAG/AFTRA merger were being announced on Friday – after our submission deadline, I had to think of a way to write a sketch that wasn’t dependent on the results (even though the fact that they were announcing them in a press conference was a pretty good sign that the merger was going to go through). So I thought about the lengths to which actors go to get a break…and this comic look emerged.

Watch “A Supreme Performance” from Top Story! Weekly Episode 144: “Stop! In the Name of Health Care!”

April 3, 2012

Thinking about how to approach the Supreme Court argument about the health care bill in a comedic way, I thought I could combine it with the other great meme of last week: Megan Draper’s dance at Don’s birthday party on “Mad Men.” Of course, the success of such a conceit depends upon the audience recognizing what’s going on, and I don’t think many folks in our audience got the reference – maybe because “Mad Men” airs at the same time our show goes up! Still, Grasie Mercedes did a great job with the dance.

Starring Grasie Mercedes (Megan Draper), Brian Vestal (Chief Justice John Roberts), Jen Cain (Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg), Brent Pope (Justice Antonin Scalia), Mitchel Baldwin (Justice Samuel Alito) and Marco Ragozzino (Justice Anthony Kennedy)
