When the story of John Travolta being accused of sexually harassing masseurs broke, Matt Manser suggested a he said/he said song parody would be in order. And since probably the most famous song from “Grease” fit the bill, I went to work. There’s a couple of line flubs, but there’s some stuff I’m really proud of – especially the perfect scan of “John Travolta” to “Summer Lovin'” in the opening lines, and the “Look Who’s Talking” reference.
We needed another sketch for our show this week, one with a lot of good parts for the ladies, so I threw together this piece about George Clooney’s fundraiser for President Obama that gave the cast a chance to show off their impersonations.
So the Octomom is doing porn. And Artemis Pebdani is in the cast so she can reprise her great characterization of Nadya Suleman. But you don’t want to make a cast member do anything tawdry. The solution? Have the Octomom take a job where she can show off her “stellar” child care skills!
I’m also really proud of the way we addressed the passing of Adam Yauch in this week’s show. Rather than do a sketch on it (not really feasible since the news broke after our submission deadline) or do a joke (which seemed inappropriate), all of our interstitial music in the show was by the Beastie Boys. I even used the opening bars of “Sabotage” to open the show in place of our usual opening. And what better way to pay tribute to a great musician, than with his music?
With all the controversy over HBO’s “Girls” I thought it would be timely to do an alternate version that might air on another network – and PBS seemed the most appropriate home for a show contrasting a refined appearance with a more earthy subject matter!
Shannon Ayers’ last show as a member of the Top Story! Weekly cast gave me one last chance to write a sketch to showcase her great Jennifer Aniston impression!!
