I was in the show this week so I went to the writers’ meeting to generate some material. And out of that came this idea for a sketch about the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination, which I co-wrote with our director Adam Campbell-Schmitt and one of our top writers, Sean Tierney. I was backstage so I didn’t hear how great the audience response was until I watched the video – and I was really happy with the results!

Lance Armstrong. Manti Te’o. What a great week this past week was for comedy about the news. We had Mike McLendon in our cast that week to play Lance and Tammie Smalls to play Oprah so at the readthrough we brainstormed ideas on how to hit the interview. I riffed, “Sheryl Crow doesn’t really exist”…and here’s the result!

This was one of my favorite sketches I’ve written in a long time, and people said some nice things afterwards. And it was a great example of how actors can and should generate their own material; Brian O’Connell suggested playing Clinton, Phillip Wilburn pitched the two Clintons, and the rest of the sketch fell together.
