Top Story! Weekly has more than once gotten people from NBC shows to guest star on a Sunday that happened to fall right after the network cancelled their show. Memorably, Brian Kiley – Conan O’Brien’s head monologue writer – was our special guest two days after the final episode of “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien”. And this month Parvesh Cheena from “Outsourced” was our guest star the Sunday after NBC announced the show would not be on the new fall schedule. Parv was great – you can watch his sketches on the TS!W website – and incredibly good natured about the show’s cancellation. So much so that he, and his equally awesome co-star Sharmila Devar did this segment – as their characters Gupta and Lata – about the new fall schedule. (And I worked in a little good-natured joke about my friend Jason Ritter.)

So for the past couple of years – i.e., 2008 , 2009 and 2010 – I’ve posted on our show’s website my “official” rules for the Academy Awards drinking game. Well, it’s that time again – so check out the “official” rules of the 2011 Academy Awards Drinking Game!!
And what better place to watch the Oscars than on Hollywood Boulevard itself? So if you don’t have a ticket to the Kodak, head about a mile east to iO West to watch the show on the big screen in the Mainstage starting at 5:30!! Then stick around after the show for an all-new Top Story! Weekly with special guest Steve Wright , followed by an all-new Deskpiece Nation featuring writers from “Conan” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” iO West has a full bar (so it’s 21+ for Mainstage shows – bring your ID!) and will feature an Oscar night special – $5 Champagne splits. Plus iO West has valet parking right next door on Cosmo, so for just $5 with validation you won’t have to worry about all the restrictions that night!

Another sketch I wrote – co-wrote, actually – from the Matthew Gray Gubler Top Story! Weekly show – only this one is without Criminal Minds ‘ Dr. Spencer Reid. Brent Pope did a great job here as the congressman who thought the U.S. government should apologize to BP.
After apologizing to BP for President Obama’s “shakedown,” Texas Congressman Joe Barton has a lot more people to apologize to!
